Synopsis

Oyoneko BunyanOyoyo is a fat oyoneko cat with yellow fur, and suddenly appears one day and settles in the Yudeta family’s house. The Yudeta family do not know how to handle Oyoyo, who has settled in their house without permission. Tamago, the eldest daughter of the family, is strong-minded and particularly hates Oyoyo; after having a fight, she tries to kick Oyoyo out. However, no matter how he is treated, the impudent and laid-back Oyoyo stays in the house, and, before they know it, he becomes a member of the family. The animated version revolves around this oyoneko cat, featuring an omnibus style in which each episode consists of three short comedy stories. In these comedy stories, Oyoyo meddles in trivial events that occur at Tamago’s school or in town and develops them in a comedic fashion, leveraging his narcissist tendencies and greedy and lazy personality. The original comic version Shiawasesan consisted of six volumes, and the title was changed to Oyoneko Bunyan starting from the seventh volume. This new title was used for the animated version. The starring oyoneko cat was called Oyoyo in the early stage of the animation, but his name was later changed to Bunyan. The animation was made into a comic version by Meiko Komichi and published in Ciao, a sister magazine to Shojo Comic. In 2008, a reprint edition of the original comic book was published by BOOK-ING (current Fukkan.com).
