Synopsis
Geragera Busu Monogatari, Ox TalesBoes is a farmer ox that runs Boes Farm. He wears big wooden shoes and is a bit silly. He leads an idyllic life, working hard looking after his cattle but sometimes going off to fish during work.Boes goes everywhere with his best friend and partner Tut the tortoise. The two are the carefree type, but lots of shocking incidents involving other animals occur around them. However, even when a major incident occurs—such as someone being swallowed by a whale—Boes and Tut keep on leading everyday life as usual. The story involves many personified animals, including moles, snakes, chickens, gorillas, lions, giraffes, elephants, who get embroiled in chaotic situations around Boes. Boes’ silly remarks and carefree personality make the trivial interaction among the animals develop in an amusing way. The story revolves around comical scenes with a surrealistic touch, such as those where a farm horse’s neck extends like a giraffe when its reins are pulled, or someone’s teeth come off as if they were false teeth. The characters make many jokey remarks, such as “That’s hippossible” [i.e. that’s impossible], and every episode includes a jingle where a mole bursts out in laughter. This series was based on the Dutch comic by Wil Raymakers. It was mainly intended for younger elementary school children and their families, and can be considered a collaborative series between Japan and the Netherlands.
