Synopsis

Jimu Botan, Jim ButtonNandemo Land is a beautiful, peaceful island that is not even on the map. On the island lives Nina, a gentle, tough-spirited woman who is good at sewing, and her son Jim. Although a somewhat rambunctious and mischievous boy who hates school, Jim has courage and a strong sense of justice. Jim enjoys a peaceful life, riding around on his steam locomotive Emma that he can operate using a whistle created by Lucas, an inventor.A crisis suddenly befalls the peaceful island. The demon king Dringer sends his followers to the island, where they attack its residents, changing the adults into stone and the children into animals.Recognizing Nina’s sewing skills, Dringer takes her away from the island with the intention of making her create a robe with magical powers. The young girl Pokko, a friend of Jim, is changed into a pigeon. With the special button that has been passed down in the family on his chest, and some help from Lucas, Jim and the locomotive Emma embark on a journey to defeat Dringer’s army and save Nina and Pokko. Jim uses his “button punch” and “button shot” against a series of assassins who are sent by Dringer, and takes on many adventures in order to save his mother Nina and restore Pokko, who has been changed into a pigeon, to her original human form.Through his journey, Jim overcomes many challenges and develops into a more mature person.Jimu Botan was first broadcast in 1974. The fact that the series was based on Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver by Michael Ende, famous for his works such as The Neverending Story, contributed to its popularity.
