Synopsis

Pinku Redi Monogatari: Eikou no Tenshi TachiPinku Redi Monogatari: Eikou no Tenshi Tachi is a documentary animation program on the lives of Mie (Mie) and Kei (Keiko Masuda) of Pink Lady, a pop idol duo that was popular in the late 1970’s.The program consists of an animation part depicting the lives of Mie and Kei through characters inspired by their image, and a live film part on the duo’s hometown and actual studios. The opening song to the program was “Hoshi Kara Kita Futari” (lyrics by Yu Aku; composed by Shunichi Tokura), and Pink Lady covered the song in their album Hoshi Kara Kita Futari.Episode One starts with an animation of the first encounter between Mie and Kei in middle school, after which follows film footage of their hometown Suehiro, Shizuoka, and its vicinity, as well as information on the town’s tourist features.Next comes a documentary animation of Kei’s birth to her father’s death.Episode Two and subsequent episodes treat the life of Mie, the forming and debut of Pink Lady, and their later achievements. Although the series is meant to be based on a true story, some episodes were created by the film crew. The actual voices of the Pink Lady duo were not used in the animation; Michiko Nomura did Mie’s voice and Junko Hori Kei’s. The narrator was Chako, or Fuyumi Shiraishi, a radio personality who gained much popularity for her late-night broadcasts.
