LENSMANKimball Kinnison (commonly called Kim), who is an Earthian in the Galactic Patrol, has no choice but to leave the front after his ship is damaged during a battle with the space pirate, Eddore, also called Boskone. Kim then flees to near the planet Arisia, where an Arisian called Mentor appears in front of him. Mentor, who believes in Kim’s character and capabilities, gives the power of the lens to Kim. Kim, becomes the Lensman, and takes over the ship used by Boskone by making full use of the power of the lens in order to help his Galactic Patrol companions, and then returns alive with them.Lensman is a series of novels written by American science fiction author, E.E. Smith over a period of ten years. The story portrays the ups and downs of the Galactic civilization, from a fatal full-scale war with the enemy, Boskone (the Bosconian civilization), while placing the growth and success of Kim at the heart of the story. It has been depicted in a wide range of media, such as anime for the cinema, as well as a TV series. It is a characteristic in Japan that the setting varies widely when it is produced as a TV series or as a movie. The theme song of the movie version, Starship—Seeking the Light, by the band, The Alfee, ranked at the top in the music charts, and was in the news.
