Synopsis

Ikkyu-san (Animation-based TV Series) Ikkyu-san is a TV drama show based on the animation series Ikkyu-san that first aired in 1975.Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the third shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, has an unusual habit: he enjoys giving riddles and “wit tests” to his vassals. The shogun asks his vassals, “Who is the wisest in the land?” All his vassals say that Ikkyu is the wisest. So, the shogun orders Ninagawa Shinemon to bring Ikkyu to him. Meanwhile, Ikkyu, who is training to become a monk at a temple, approaches a certain bridge. The greedy merchant Kikyoya has erected a sign saying “None Shall Cross This Bridge” in hiragana (which can also be read as “None Shall Cross The Edge”), causing inconvenience to the common people. Using his trademark wit, Ikkyu instructs the people to cross through the center of the bridge, thus solving the problem.Ikkyu-san aired on June 30, 2012 as Fuji TV’s Premium Saturday show. Its sequel, Ikkyu-san 2, aired on May 5, 2013. The show is starred by Fuku Suzuki. Fuku Suzuki made his debut in Kimi ga kureta Natsu--Ganbareba Shiawase ni Nareruyo--on the Nippon TV network, in which he played the son of the leading actor, Hideaki Takizawa. He later rose to stardom with his role in Marumo no Okite, which premiered on the same network in 2011 . As for other members of the cast, Hiroki Narimiya plays Ninagawa Shinemon and Noriyuki Higashiyama plays Yoshimitsu Ashikaga. Toshiko Fujita, the voice actor for Ikkyu in the animation series, served as the narrator in the first episode.Several other TV series based on the animation series have been produced, namely Ikkyu-san II, starring Yui Asaka, and Ikkyu-san, starring Yasuko Tomita.
