Based on a story written by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori, this drama series was created by focusing on Masked Rider Zero, one version of the Masked Rider series envisioned by Ishinomori earlier, with the concept of returning to the original Masked Rider. In addition, the manga adaptation Masked Rider Black by Ishinomori ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday during the same period as broadcasting.
