Giant Robo A n alien named King Guillotine has come from space to invade Earth. He forms a secret society called Big Fire, sending ferocious monsters and robot soldiers to take over the planet. Unicorn, a special investigation organization of the United Nations, is established to continue the struggle against the enemy forces. Meanwhile, a boy named Daisaku Kusama is caught up in an attack by one of King Guillotine’s monsters. Along with Juro Minami, a member of Unicorn, Daisaku is captured by Big Fire on an island where they have been washed up. The island is full of various weapons ready for the conquest of Earth, and the enemy’s latest weapon, GR1, is under development. Daisaku and Juro Minami seize the opportunity to escape. Then, a scientist named Dr. Garchua, who has been threatened and forced to develop weapons by the enemy, entrusts them with a watch-type transmitter for controlling GR1, the latest weapon that he has developed. Using GR1, aka Giant Robo, the two successfully escape from the island. Since Daisuke’s voice was registered with the watch-type transmitter, he is the only one who can control Giant Robo. Therefore, he joins Unicorn’s Japan branch, of which Juro Minami is a member, and confronts the invading enemy with Giant Robo to destroy the ambitions of King Guillotine.Giant Robo is a giant robot-themed tokusatsu TV series produced by Toei, airing on NET (current TV Asahi) from January to April 1968. It is based on the manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, the creator of works such as Tetsujin 28 and Babel II. After the tokusatsu series ended, an OVA of the animation series was launched in 1992, and a TV series began in 2007.
