Synopsis

Kaiketsu Raionmaru, Kaiketsu Lion-Maru The time is the Sengoku period, or the era or provincial wars. A man who has become an evil sorcerer in the Himalayan mountains of Tibet begins his dark deeds and extends his evil hand to Japan, plotting to rule the war-torn world as the great demon king Gousan. Sensing the danger, the great ninja Kashin Koji, who had also been training in Tibetan magic, bestows three treasures: Golden Sand Sword, Kodachi Sword that possesses magical powers, and Flute that calls heavenly horses, on his disciples Shishimaru, Saori, and Kosuke, whom he had trained in the Hida mountains, and orders them to overthrow Gousan. When Kashin Koji gives up his life to protect the three from Gousan’s assassins, Shishimaru takes the Golden Sand Sword in his hand, pulls it out and performs a spell called Ninpo Shishi-Henge, transforming himself into Lion-Maru, a swordsman with the power of a white lion, and he confronts the group of monsters. Furthermore, Tora Jonosuke, who possesses the Silver Sand Sword—the counterpart to the Golden Sand Sword—and transforms into the black tiger Tiger Joe to become the best swordsman in Japan, and Shishimaru recognize each other’s strength and fight together to crush Gousan’s evil ambitions.Tetsuya Ushio, who still appears in many detective dramas and period dramas today, plays the lead role. The series is based on an original story by Soji Ushio. Produced by P Productions, this tokusatsu superhero show based on a period drama was broadcast from April 1972 to April 1973 on the Fuji Television network. After the show was completed, Fuun Lion-Maru, which partially inherited the setting of the original series, was broadcast following the popularity of the main series, and later in 2006, a remake, Lion-Maru G, set in the modern Kabukicho, was broadcast.
