Synopsis I-hato-bu Gensou Kenji-no-haruIn this story depicting half a life of Kenji Miyazawa、 who wrote various works including poems and fairy tales、 its characters are anthropomorphized comical cats.Kenji、 a school teacher in a farm village、 is a strange person who suddenly begins to sing during class、 tells about something called fourth dimensions、 and is even rumored that he can hear the voice of ghosts.Raised as a son of pawnshop、 Kenji devotes himself to create works without getting understanding of the people around him including his father.Only his friend、 Kanai and his sister、 Toshiko are supporters to him but gradually Kenji becomes apart from Kanai with time and Toshiko、 sickly by nature、 dies at an early age.In such situation、 Kenji quits teaching and begins to plow a field in spite of being mocked as a fun for the rich. He opens a consultation office for fertilizer and conducts educational campaign for farmer’s art、 both of which do not work well.Cornered into a difficult situation、 Kenji becomes increasingly frail and one day、 he experiences strange hallucination、 looking back on his life. He thinks、 “I couldn’t do anything、 I couldn’t change anything. As people say to me、 I have only pursued my own ideals、” and he sees a train flying to the galaxy in the end. When Kenji awakes from hallucination and looks up at the sky、 he hears a train whistle which he is not sure is reality or phantom. He murmurs、 “I will go on a little more、” and begins to walk on a road feeling spring.
