Synopsis Eight ManDetective Hachiro Azuma、 a member of the Investigation Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department、 is attacked and killed while on an investigation of the criminal gang Denden Mushi. A passerby、 Doctor Hoi Tani、 carries Azuma’s body to his laboratory. Doctor Tani transfers Azuma’s memory and personality to a super robot of his creation、 thereby creating Eight Man. His name signifies that he does not belong to any of the seven investigation teams of the Investigation Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.Although Hachiro Azuma、 now reborn as Eight Man、 normally works as a private detective、 he transforms into Eight Man when an incident occurs、 combating evil while hiding his true identity.Only Doctor Hoi Tani and Section Leader Tanaka、 Azuma’s former boss at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department、 know Eight Man’s true identity.Eight Man can pick up ultrasonic waves and see perfectly in darkness、 and has search light and video recording functions. Since his face is made from artificial skin and his joints can be transformed freely、 he can even assume the appearance of a woman. He can reach a running speed of 3、000 km/h. The opening scene where he zooms right past a bullet train was impressive. In addition to the energetic composition of scenes、 featuring a hero inhaling cigarette-shaped nutrients had a cool masculine feel to it at the time. However、 these scenes did not appear later on in the series. The script of Eight Man was created by Aritsune Toyota、 Kazumasa Hirai、 and Ryo Hanmura、 later to become famous as science fiction writers、 among others.
