Boken Gaboten-jima、 Adventures on Gaboten Island Four boys and a girl sneak into an amusement park in the dead of night. The five are: Ryuta、 a brave and dependable leader; Tomato、 a gentle girl and Ryuta’s younger sister; Igao、 who despite being selfish cares for his friends; Kyuri、 a kind boy of the intellectual type; and Kabo、 a brawny、 class-clown-type of boy.The five sneak onto a submarine ride. However、 Ryuta and Igao get into a fight over a trivial issue、 causing the engine to start and the submarine to set out to sea.They immediately try to steer the submarine back to land but in vain、 and eventually run out of fuel. They are stranded in the ocean、 caught up in a tempest、 and end up washed away on the shores of an unknown、 uninhabited island.Stranded on an uninhabited island after an unexpected turn of events、 the five name the island “Gaboten” and meet various animals on the island、 including the parrot Osho and the monkey Gori. Together with these animals、 and at times working with and against one another、 the five grow through enduring the harsh life on the island and going out on many adventures、 managing to survive by deepening the bond between one another. Then、 one day、 a certain country planning to carry out a nuclear test sends an investigation team to Gaboten Island. Ryuta and the others are rescued by the team、 but a volcanic eruption occurs on Gaboten Island right before the nuclear test is carried out. Everyone is forced to evacuate the island、 and the nuclear test is called off.First airing in 1967、 Boken Gaboten-jima revolves around the growth and adventures of four boys and a girl who are forced to survive in a primitive environment like that depicted in Two Years’ Vacation. Its depiction of group life in a harsh environment made the series a great hit.
