Eiko no Sebango 3 Mr. Giants、 Mr. Giants、 the Glorious Uniform Number 3 This is a documentary-style work combining animation with live action、 depicting the professional baseball player Shigeo Nagashima’s career and how he became a baseball player. Shigeo Nagashima、 also known as Mr. Giants、 is currently serves an advisory role for the Golden Players Club and received the People’s Honor Award in 2013.Just after World War II、 Shigeo was a boy into baseball enough to challenge the occupation army team to a game. He grew up and went on to Rikkyo University . At the game of Tokyo Big6 Baseball League 、 he hit his eighth home run that was unprecedented at the time and gained acclaim from all over Japan. After this 、 he joined his dream team of Yomiuri Giants 、 faced-off with pitchers like Masaichi Kaneda of Kokutetsu Swallows (then) and Minoru Murayama of Hanshin Tigers 、 with whom later developed camaraderie、 and became a leading player of the Giants. The manga artist Tetsuya Chiba who created many hit manga like Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow’s Joe) and Chikai no Makyu (The Promised Pitch) designed the characters for the anime part. Many actual great players at the time were adapted into anime characters. It depicts Shigeo Nagashima in the prime of his career and the time when all of Japan were enthusiastic about professional baseball. It was aired as a special single-episode drama on April 1、 1981. Many anime featuring professional baseball have been created、 but this was a special one focusing only on the career of Shigeo Nagashima.
