Synopsis Gegege no KitaroKitaro is a Ghost Tribe boy that was born from the grave、 and、 together with his father who has become an eyeball、 he slays evil monsters that bring misfortune to humans using his monster abilities and various items including a padded waistcoat and wooden clogs that carry the power of his ancestors. Medama Oyaji、 Neko Musume、 Nurikabe、 Sunakake Baba、 and Konaki Jiji help Kitaro in his fights with the evil monsters. Kitaro has the aspiration to one day create a peaceful world in which humans and monsters can live in harmony.Sometimes Kitaro punishes human evil-doers to help monsters that are in trouble、 and most episodes feature poetic justice. Nezumi Otoko、 who sometimes curries favor with those who oppose Kitaro、 is a comical figure and a popular character.Gegege no Kitaro is an animated version of Shigeru Mizuki’s original manga Hakabano Kitaro、 and the manga contains some scenes of cruelty、 grotesque-looking monsters、 and social caricature、 whereas the animated version depicts Kitaro’s personality and his monster friends as being more friendly and likable. The first series that was broadcast from 1968 was a popular show but only available in black and white. (Television broadcasting was only available in black and white in those days). Later、 with the appearance of color television shows、 the second and third series were broadcast in color. Furthermore、 a live-action film was produced starring Eiji Wentz.Broadcasting of the sixth series started in 2018、 in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the broadcasting of the first series.
