Synopsis Rurouni Kenshin The legendary assassin Kenshin Himura who became famous in the end of Edo era was called “Hitokiri Battosai” because of his fierce sword skills. This name horrified the then shogunate government and its supporters. Ten years have passed、 and it is 11 years into the Meiji era (1878). Kenshin repents his past sins、 forbids himself strictly of taking people’s lives、 and vows to never kill. He spends his days traveling to various parts of Japan as a wanderer to help others. He arrives in Tokyo、 and while in town、 he meets Kaoru Kamiya、 a young woman who is an assistant instructor of Kamiya Katsushin-ryu of swordsmanship、 by chance. When Kaoru is attacked by a gang barging into her dojo、 Kenshin comes to her aid. Seeing his sword skills、 she later finds out that Kenshin is the one who was once feared as Hitokiri Battosai and a master of Hiten Mitsurugi-ryu 、 the ancient swordsmanship of superhuman speed. After this incident、 Kaoru invites Kenshin to stay at her dojo . And there、 Kenshin meets many people like Yahiko Myojin、 a boy student of Kamiya Dojo、 Sanosuke Sagara、 a sword for hire、 and Megumi Takani、 a doctor of Western medicine. Later、 there are a series of tsujigiri incidents where an imposter of Hitokiri Battosai attacks people on the street with a sword. Meanwhile、 after Kenshin battled out with Hajime Saito of Shinsengumi、 a special police force、 he is asked to investigate incidents happening in the city and solves many cases such as the case of Hitokiri Battosai imposter and the opium smuggling case.To pay for his past crimes and to protect his precious places and the people he loves、 Kenshin continues to fight with the people who challenge him using the sakabato、 a sword entrusted to him so he can stick to his vow to never kill in the Meiji era.
