Synopsis L/R、 L/R: Licensed by RoyaltySituated next to England is a fictional island nation known as Ishtar that was created by the monarchy. Ishtar is home to many private agencies that have been licensed by the Royal Guard to solve all kinds of cases. There are two top-notch agents that belong to Cloud 7、 one of the best royal agencies that has earned the trust of the royal family. The duo consists of Rowe Rickenbacker、 a master of disguise and vocal mimicry who can be rather reckless at times、 and Jack Hofner、 a gentleman-like but aloof guy、 tackling and solving various cases––ranging from terrorist attacks to accidents––that occur in Ishtar with the help of their unique colleagues at Cloud 7 as well as a variety of secret gadgets. Rowe and Jack use both their courage and brains to complete the “impossible” missions assigned to them by the royal family for Ishtar. They later meet Noelle Ardelade、 a young girl who is running as candidate for the next queen of Ishtar to obtain enough money to repair a clocktower in her hometown、 and get embroiled in a major dispute over royal succession.L/R: Licensed by Royalty ran in 13 episodes on Fuji TV in 2003. The series features various keywords and personal names that are associated with Western music. For example、 the name of Rowe and Jack’s agency、 Cloud 7、 was taken from Beatles guitarist George Harrison’s solo album Cloud 9.
