Synopsis |
Yakyukyo no Uta、 Song of Baseball Enthusiasts Tetsugoro Iwata、 an old pitcher of age 53 who was also called a God-sent player、 belongs to the Tokyo Mets、 a deadweight team and the perennial cellar-dweller of the Central League .Tetsugoro meets a submarine pitcher named Yuki Mizuhara who is in a high school women’s baseball team. He sees something special in her and encourages her to join the Mets.Yuki rejects Tetsugoro’s persuasion at first because she wanted to go to college. But she is moved by his enthusiasm and decides to join the team.Yuki overcomes the barrier of the Professional Baseball Agreement that does not allow women to register as a professional player and joins the Mets by being picked in the first-round draft. She becomes the first female professional baseball player. While in the farm、 Yuki survives the harsh training conducted by the catcher Muto and Tetsugoro’s eccentric training incorporating bowling. And she takes the mound of the top league with the breaking ball named “Dream Ball” by Muto.Yuki performs brilliantly as a one-pitch relief pitcher and baffles the Central League’s leading batters.Yuki overcomes the fateful battle with Muto who has moved to Hiroshima Toyo Carp in mid-season and becomes the driving force for the cellar-dweller Mets to change into one of the best teams in the league. The anime was broadcasted as a single one-hour program depicting the upset that occurred when Yuki Mizuhara joined the Mets. As this boomed in popularity、 a series of 25 episodes was produced with one episode airing once a month. This was rare for an anime. The story up to episode 11 consists of episodes depicting Yuki Mizuhara’s story. But from episode 12、 the stories of other characters before Yuki joined the Mets are described.
