Synopsis |
Midori no MakibaoMakibao、 a strange looking、 donkey-like horse、 is born from Midoriko、 a fine horse of a ranch called Midori Ranch in Hokkaido. Subsequently、 Midoriko is sold to Horie Ranch to pay Midori Ranch’s debt. Makibao sneaks out of Midori Ranch to search for his mother and meets Chubei the mouse. Chubei makes Makibao his protege and makes him pretend to be a racehorse. Makibao spends his entire time on special training to become a racehorse. One day、 the ranch owner’s older brother Masatora who is a racehorse trainer discovers Makibao’s incredible speed and guts . And Makibao officially starts his career as a thoroughbred.Through the encounter with his fated rival racehorse Cascade and a jockey named Kansuke、 Makibao grows as a racehorse. And at the age of three、 he is registered as a racehorse by the name Midori Makibao. Furthermore、 he meets Tsabideru during his expedition to Mongolia and learns his killer running style called Mustang Special. Then he builds a camaraderie with Amago Wakuchin、 a rival who is determined to defeat Cascade、 and challenges Cascade four times. Later、 Makibao loses by a nose in the Satsuki Sho race because Chubei fell off from him but ends in a dead heat in the Japanese Derby . In the Arima Kinen race、 Cascade suffering from a fatal disease gives Makibao the game and leaves the race scene.From this episode on、 the story of the anime takes an original turn where Makibao goes on an overseas expedition. The story ends with Makibao winning the World’s Best Horse Grand Prix、 a race originally created for the anime.
