Synopsis Rekka no Hono、 Flame of ReccaRecca Hanabishi is a high school student who dreams of becoming a ninja、 a type of agent or mercenary that was active in the Sengoku period、 or the era of provincial wars. One day、 Recca gets severely injured trying to save a girl named Yanagi Sakoshita who was about to get caught in some falling building material in a construction site. Recca survives thanks to Yanagi’s mystical healing powers、 but is then suddenly assaulted by a mysterious beauty named Kagehoshi. During the fight、 Recca realizes that he has the power to control fire and uses his powers to defeat Kagehoshi. Thereafter、 Recca dedicates himself to protecting Yanagi from all those who seek her healing powers. Recca defeats many assassins with the help of his friends Fuko Kirisawa and Domon Ishijima、 as well as Tokiya Mikagami whom they met through a fight、 but one day Yanagi is kidnapped. With the help of Kagehoshi、 who has become an ally、 Recca manages to get into the mansion where Yanagi is being held. There、 Recca is confronted by a mysterious man named Kurei who has the power to control fire just like Recca does. During this、 Recca gains a new kind of power called the 8 Karyu、 or Flame Dragons. Recca manages to defeat Kurei and rescue Yanagi、 after which he learns that there is a 400-year dispute related to the Hokage Clan between him and Kurei. In order to end this dispute once and for all and protect Yanagi、 Recca and his companions decide to participate in the Ura Buto Satsujin tournament to confront Kurei. After many fights Recca and his companions manage to beat Kurei、 and peace is restored to the team and Yanagi.Flame of Recca is based on the manga by Nobuyuki Anzai and ran in 42 episodes from 1997 to 1998. Although the anime series covered all parts of the manga up to the Ura Buto Satsujin tournament、 major modifications were made to the story. For instance、 in the anime adaptation、 the mastermind Koran Mori dies in the last scene.
