Tottoko Hamutaro、 Hamtaro The protagonist Hamtaro is a curious and cheerful golden hamster who usually ends his sentences with nanoda (having a playful accent in Japanese). He moves to a town full of greenery with his owner Laura Haruna、 nicknamed Roko-chan (after her name Hiroko in original Japanese version) . He accidentally learns that he can go outside and meets other unique hamsters including Oxnard、 a next-door big eater、 and Boss、 who has no owner. Hamtaro casually names the group of these fellow hamsters the Ham-Hams.The Ham-Hams converts Boss's house to the Ham-Ham Clubhouse as a secret base where the members gather and play. Later、 Hamtaro and other Ham-Hams members set out on adventures. Although they sometimes encounter a little dangerous situations、 they stick together to get over them and create happy memories. Through repeated adventures、 the Ham-Hams increases its members gradually.The first anime series of Hamtaro is a direct-to-VHS OVA released in 1999 titled Tottoko Hamutaro Anime Dechu! The official television series Hamtaro was premiered on the TV Tokyo network in 2000. Subsequently、 the television series continued to run with the title slightly changing、 leading to the fifth season renewed in 2012. The anime series became so popular among children that theatrical film adaptations were produced every year from 2001 to 2004. The original Hamtaro is a children’s manga series by Ritsuko Kawai and serialized in Shogakukan’s Second Grade magazine from 1997. The anime gained an unprecedented 10% rating immediately after its release.
