Synopsis Futatsu no Supica、 Twin Spica In 2010、 Japan’s first manned space exploration rocket Shishigo crashes in Yuigahama、 Kamakura City、 Kanagawa Prefecture、 where Asumi Kamogawa、 who was only one year old at the time、 lives. The accident kills all the crew members and results in many casualties、 including residents of the town. Asumi herself loses the grip on her left hand、 which is her dominant hand、 and her mother becomes bedridden due to the accident and dies a few years later. One day、 the ghost of Takano、 a former crew member of the Shishigo also known as Mr. Lion、 appears in front of Asumi wearing a lion’s headdress. Mr. Lion、 who is only visible to Asumi、 begins to talk about his dreams as an astronaut、 dreams he could not fulfill. Touched by Mr. Lion’s dreams、 Asumi promises to become an astronaut and begins training to regain her lost grip strength. After graduating from junior high school、 Asumi enters the Tokyo Space Academy、 a training school for astronauts、 and works steadily with her friends who share the same dream. The manga、 written by Kou Yaginuma、 was published in the July 2000 issue of Monthly Comic Flapper (published by MediaWorks) in the form of five short stories、 covering the period from Asumi’s elementary school to junior high school years. Later、 the setting of the short story was taken over and published as a serial work in the same magazine from the October 2001 issue to the September 2009 issue. From November 2003 to March 2004、 the TV animated series was broadcast on NHK-BS2’s Satellite Animation Theater . Asumi was voiced by Akiko Yajima、 who is known as the first voice of Shinnosuke Nohara. The TV series was broadcast from June to July 2009 on NHK General TV in the Drama 8 slot、 and actor Nanami Sakuraba played the leading role in a serial TV show for the first time.
