Synopsis |
Planet Prince Planet Prince came from space to Earth over 200 years ago to make it a member of the Space Union. However、 his spacecraft crashed-landed in the mountains of Japan due to a system failure、 following which he entered a long slumber. Many years later、 the construction of a dam causes Planet Prince to wake from his slumber. He begins a new life in modern Japan as a human named Waku-san. Whenever an incident occurs、 Waku-san transforms into Planet Prince to confront aliens、 undersea peoples、 and secret societies and organizations that want to rule Earth. He works together with Inspector Takeda and the siblings Kimiko and Makoto. Even though Planet Prince’s outfit does not conceal his face、 his identity remains a secret、 much like Moonlight Mask.Planet Prince was Japan’s first ever alien tokusatsu TV series. T he series ran for four seasons、 each comprising 13 episodes and featuring a different villain. Koichi Ose、 who later starred in Moonlight Mask and The Samurai、 made a guest appearance. The series aired on the Nippon TV network from November 1958 to September 1959. It was collaboratively produced by Nippon TV and Senkosha、 which is known for productions such as Kaiketsu Harimao and Silver Kamen. The story was created by screenwriter Masaru Igami、 marking his debut. Igami went on to become a leading creator in tokusatsu、 children’s drama、 and anime screenwriting. Toei joined the team to produce a theatrical movie in May 1959. The movie featured a new cast、 with the young Tatsuo Umemiya playing Planet Prince. A film titled Planet Prince 2021 was later released. The costumes used in the movie were designed by Kia Asamiya、 who participated in works such as Silent Möbius and Martian Successor Nadesico.
