| Synopsis |
Teito Monogatari (Doomed Megalopolis)—The EarthquakeA dozen years after the battle between the demon、 Yasunori Kato、 and the exorcists of the Tsuchimikado Clan、 Yukari Tatsumiya、 with strong psychic powers returns、 to the Tatsumiya house、 but she now has a daughter named Yukiko. The Meiji period has ended、 and the Taisho era has already begun.A series of earthquakes have struck the imperial capital、 Tokyo、 and it is beyond doubt that the principal source is the burial mount in which the spirit of Taira no Masakado is confined.Taking advantage of this opportunity、 Kato who conspires to wake the spirit of Masakado、 tries to do so this time by offering Yukiko in sacrifice、 in order to destroy the imperial capital、 something that could not be achieved by using Yukari. Since Yukiko has more psychic powers than Yukari、 she can wake not only the Masakado’s spirit、 but also the spiritual pulse、 the Underground Dragon、 sleeping deep below ground. Therefore、 Kato tries to use Yukiko’s power、 and offers Yukiko as a gift to Masakado、 to wake the Underground Dragon. However、 Kamo of the Tsuchimikado Clan、 the exorcist group、 gets in Kato’s way. Moreover、 Kato disappears because he is rejected by the Masakado’s spirit. While nobody knows if Kato has really died、 a big earthquake occurs that continues to be passed from generation to generation in modern Japan. This is because the imperial capital、 Tokyo、 has irritated the Underground Dragon which has started to move. This is the Great Kanto Earthquake.Although the threat from the demon、 Kato、 is overcome once、 Tokyo turns into a burnt field partly because of fires that resulted from the earthquake. It is set around the transition from the end of the Taisho period to the beginning of the Showa.
