| Synopsis |
Teito Monogatari (Doomed Megalopolis)—Movement of the DragonOn September 1、 1923、 the imperial capital has burned to the ground because of the Great Kanto Earthquake that hit Tokyo. A businessman、 Eiichi Shibusawa、 spearheads an effort to restore the imperial capital. The Imperial Capital Reconstruction Plan that has suffered setbacks is about to be put into practice. There is a grand plan mapped out at this time、 which is to run a high-speed rail line under the imperial capital.Meanwhile、 Yukiko、 the first daughter of Yukari Tatsumiya once bedeviled by the demon Yasunori Kato、 is staying at the Tatsumiya family’s house. Yukari’s elder brother、 Yoichiro、 has married Keiko Mekata、 a shrine maiden of the Soma Omokage Shrine. Keiko marries into the Tatsumiya Clan in order to battle Kato. Kato is still alive、 and is working to offer Yukiko、 who is Yukari’s daughter、 as a gift to the Masakado’s spirit、 to wake it、 and to have it at his beck and call. In order to foil his scheme、 they try to fight Kato using Keiko’s psychic powers. To completely calm the spiritual pulse、 Keiko saves Yukiko with no regard for her own life、 and succeeds in calming the Underground Dragon、 which had been sleeping deep underground but which has begun to wake because of the Earthquake. However、 Kato vanishes again in front of those who were protecting the imperial capital.Teito Monogatari consists of four volumes in total as an OVA series、 and concludes with the battle between Kato and Keiko、 who acquires the power of Kanzeon Bosatsu (Buddhist Goddess of Mercy) in the last volume、 The Budda.Ultimately、 details such as who Kato is、 and why he hates the imperial capital、 are not described、 but according to the commander-in-chief of the exorcists、 the Tsuchimikado Clan、 and Hirai、 who loses his life in the first volume、 it is described that Kato is a descendent of the Matsurowanu tami、 which has been passed down the generations in Ryujin Village、 Kishu. This is based on a science fiction novel originally authored by Hiroshi Aramata. An urban legend and history play key roles、 so to speak. The anime version has many scenes that strive for visual beauty.
