Nanatsu no Umi no Tiko、 Tico and Friends Nanami、 a girl who has lost her mother when young、 lives on an oceanographic research vessel with her father Scott、 who is a marine biologist、 and his friend Al.Tico、 a killer whale saved by Scott 11 years ago on the day Nanami was born、 travels together with their ship too.Their purpose is to find the legendary luminous whale.Together with the new friends they met during their journey、 Nanami and the crew continue their adventure on the seas of the world.Meanwhile、 GMC、 a large company searching for a material called trontium、 discovers that trontium is synthesized inside the body of luminous whales、 and they go on to conduct further investigation.After a journey across the seas、 Nanami and her friends encounter with a luminous whale at the South Pole. But the luminous whale is captured by GMC. Nanami and her friends find out that GMC’s purpose is to develop a biological weapon using the trontium. They break into GMC’s observation base to rescue the luminous whale.Thanks to the efforts of Nanami、 Scott and the marine creatures guided by the voice of the luminous whale、 the laboratory of GMC gets wiped out.Just after Nanami and her friends rescued the luminous whale、 a pillar of light suddenly appears before them.Nanami hears a voice calling her from the pillar of light and heads toward it.A pod of luminous whales was inside the pillar. They tell her that they are “witnesses of life” and they disappear.Several years later、 Nanami who has grown older reunites with her friends、 and they set out to sea again.This piece was produced as a work commemorating the 20th anniversary of the World Masterpiece Theatre (Sekai Meisaku Gekijo) . It is the first in the World Masterpiece Theatre series that is completely original and not based on any book.
